Thank you so much for your post. I’ve been harassed to the point where I had to get hospitalized because my F/O is a minor in canon and everyone called me a pedophile even though I aged him up. I tried so hard to hate him and get away from him but I never could… Despite all this I still love him very much and I think I always will.

I was really hesitant to join the self ship community when I learned about it last year, because at the time, my most intense f/o was a high school student (Mukuro) and i had seen so much hostility from some people about that kind of thing.

You absolutely did not deserve any of the abuse or harassment that you received and I hope you know that.

I hope that you can break through those feelings of self loathing and find joy with your F/O again. There is always space for you in the proselfship community.

Liking a character who is canonically underage doesn’t make you a pedophile, and almost no one in the world would even suggest that it does. Fancops are the outliers.

They mean “I don’t like you because you aren’t like me, and I only want people who are acceptably like me to exist.”

Rant: I’m sick of being told to take accountability and to make sure others are comfortable because I fucking do all the time. Though it doesn’t matter how much you do that, the second you express your needs and want they turn on you in a second. Even if you are in pain.

There is a word for people who demand that you cater to their comfort and needs while disregarding your comfort and needs.

Abusers.

It’s always okay to feel that something is: icky, gross, upsetting, disturbing, disgusting, repellant, triggering, nasty, weird, unsightly or in bad taste.

What isn’t okay is: insulting that thing to it’s creators face, wishing violence on that thing’s creator and people who support them, claiming the person who created it is a bad person for making it, telling people they arent allowed to make or enjoy things that you personally dont like.

It felt so horrid to be chased out of places, one was an amino where they had a space for controversial topics and I was discussing it there and the mods kicked me out of the chat and gave me a warning. So I left because I felt unwanted.I had a huge NSSI meltdown over it as it was a very dear space, I was there for years, I tried so hard to be kind and help people and met lots of good friends. I was even a mod at one point and they liked me, I hate how quickly they turned on me. I still miss it now and trying to make my own space but it’s not going well.I feel lonely online now, and mobility is getting harder so that’s making social more difficult, and at work sometimes I feel like it’s hard to talk to people. Anti just makes no sense to me, it seems hypocritical and nasty and counter productive. Art shouldn’t be a crime.

Online socialization is so, so important for so many of use that are homebound. It’s another dimension of antis ableism that that is something they don’t even take into account.

I hope you can find a space online where you feel wanted and where you belong.

Always an anti.And even when there are bigots in the proship community, we always call it out and disown them. Antis never do it for their own, they either ignore or encourage it. But no, being anti-censorship, anti-harassment, and being ship and let ship is the pipeline to bigotry.

I have seen a lot of fancops using ableist language, and eugenics terminology and viewpoints.

I have seen a lot of fancops hurl around racist insults and be openly antisemitic.

I have seen a lot of fancops who are obviously anti-japanese.

I have seen a lot of fancops invalidate the trauma of survivors, and directly wish further abuse on them, or tell them they’re glad their abuse happened.

I have seen a lot of fancops deliberately misgender people.

It’s really sad, but it’s not surprising.

Fancops are the fox news watchers of fandom.

antis have gotten worse since the last time i was involved with their following. back then it used to be “that’s gross dni” and now its gotten to “women are only into ‘gross’ media bc they’re incapable of thought”. which is something i never thought i would see with my own eyes.
