It’s always okay to feel that something is: icky, gross, upsetting, disturbing, disgusting, repellant, triggering, nasty, weird, unsightly or in bad taste.
What isn’t okay is: insulting that thing to it’s creators face, wishing violence on that thing’s creator and people who support them, claiming the person who created it is a bad person for making it, telling people they arent allowed to make or enjoy things that you personally dont like.
We are realizing more and more than antis have no concept of people who think and believe in a way other than the way they think and believe.
Antis seem to believe that there is only one category of people who think and believe in a way that they don’t, and that category is “weirdos and criminals, and weirdo and criminal are synonyms.”
On Tuesday, May 29, 2007, LJers – users of the then-popular blogging site Livejournal – woke up to find that their Friends lists were showing a large number of names that had been crossed out, or strikethrough ‘ed.
It turned out that LiveJournal had permanently suspended over 500 journals based on the users’ interest lists. Interests that were likely to get a journal banned included but were not limited to: child pornography, incest, pedophilia, rape, domestic violence, BDSM, prostitution. Journals that listed things like murder, crime, drugs, cocaine, theft, tax evasion or election fraud among their creators’ interests were not banned: interests related to sexual crime were the targets.
Among the deleted ljs were RPG journals, book discussion groups [1], rape survivor blogs[2], and fannish groups, including the large and popular Harry Potter fanfiction community Pornish Pixies, which was an age-restricted community for adult HP fanfiction.
These mass-censorship events destroyed whole fanfiction and rp communities, and were the major motivating events behind the creation of Archive of Our Own and Dreamwidth.
We’ve lived through the worst of it. We had Something Awful threads and Encyclopedia Dramatica articles, etc, about us back in the day.
We try to treat fancops, harassers and trolls online like we would any real world terrorist or bully.
What these people are trying to do is to use fear to make you back down, to make you disappear, to make you shut up.
We refuse.
We are here. They will not make us go away.
And if us refusing to shut up helps even one person who sees us feel more inspired to be courageous, or even just to feel a little less self loathing at who they are, then we are proud to be here, and it’s all worth it.

A visiting cop in my 5th grade class tried to tell me that if you play violent video games, eventually it will no longer be enough, and you’ll want to start killing people in real life. She had this whole shitty anecdote of a boy who went on a real killing spree after learning how to kill from video games. Have we seen an actual increase in real violent crime after DOOM the way the right predicted? No!! In fact, as video games get more graphic and more violent, violence in real life actually goes down!!! Is that the trend we should expect if what you say is true?
This is why evangelical christians want to ban porn outright, because they think it’s “too dangerous”. Do you think that every sexual being is a ticking timebomb who eventually can’t get off anymore because their wife has become “too boring” or the porn they’re watching has become “too tepid”?? Sure, eventually it’s nice to spice things up so you can keep getting aroused, but most people just kind of…get aroused on their own? Like, if you have a libido at all, eventually you just get aroused again overtime, and you won’t need more and more extreme shit, because you just get horny again naturally. Like, I feel like that’s what’s most common???
Like, where do you think it stops??? Do you think eventually abusers will need to seek even more extreme abuse until even real mass genocide is no longer enough??? Do you think they won’t stop until they’re either dead or dying????? Do you realize how this actually makes you sound????????
