I hate the stereotype that if you hurt animals as a kid you were gonna be a serial killer kids aren’t the best at emotion management, might be curious, and might not be able to empathize yet and kids (especially tism kids) hurting animals is extremely common and most people aren’t serial killers so Its not good to hurt animals ofc but it doesnt mean a kid is a monster if they do that

People love stereotypes.

They love to put other people in neat boxes with clear identities.

People especially love to be able to put labels on things they think are dangerous, because they think it makes them safer.

It’s instinctive, I think.

People like to think “if this, then that” is always true, because it makes them feel safe.

It makes them feel like they know where the danger is.

It makes them feel like the danger is outside themselves.

It makes them sure that they are not the dangerous ones.

It isn’t true.

Hurting animals is bad. Hurting animals is always bad.

Children do a lot of things that are bad, and hurtful.

Children and learning and growing.

Let people learn and grow, instead of putting them into boxes.

i think the worst thing antis have done is convinced a whole generation that anyone under 6 feet or 300 pounds is a literal child.and if you, general, exist as someone who is 5 feet or under as a grown adult, than you are “”perpetuating”” pedophilia.it’s disgusting. – 💔

Antis really have a lot of unexamined ableism and eugenics in their mindsets, and this is a case of it.

They expect every person to fit a certain mold and anyone who doesn’t….

Well, they’re perfectly comfortable saying anyone who is attracted to a person under 5’5 is a pedophile,

and equally comfortable saying that anyone who is attracted to an autistic person is a pedophile.

“the prefrontal cortex doesn’t fully form until yr 25!!” y do u wish to take more agency away from teens and young adults. y do u refer to phrenology to inform yr worldview. I’m about to undevelop yr prefrontal cortex with a baseball bat if u don’t shut the fuck up

for the ppl who decided something they saw in a scientific american headline their friend posted counts as objective fact, from the Wikipedia list of common misconceptions:

it’s pop science. it’s pseudoscience. it’s phrenology. it’s not real.

Though it decreases in plasticity as we age, the brain never stops being able to change and grow. That’s why stroke rehab is possible.

#every time someone cites this ‘fact’
#as a reason why people between 18 and 26 are unable to self determine or consent to relationships
#my hackles go all the way the fuck up
#being young and figuring your shit out
#isn’t the same as being a little child with no agency or ability to make choices
#adulthood is temporal but it’s also learned
#and when you treat people like stupid children until they’re 25
#then you’re one weird conversation away from claiming that anyone under 30 can’t make choices or some shit

Bad news: there’s already noise from conservatives along those lines, and they’re currently testing it out on trans people!

Now, if you’ve ever met anyone who was treated like a child well into adulthood you know that that just pushes the Learning to Adult Effectively problem along and you get an immature 25-to-30-year-old, not one that’s wiser and makes no mistakes. Conservatives know this too, but they also know that keeping people infantilized is a great way to control them.

Reject the psuedoscience bullshit. No one learns and grows by being kept inside a little box.

Chronically online, touch grass, and brain rot/wormsAll feel like gross phrases to me as they are just conversation stopping insults on the same lines as “get a life” They just seem like bullies new favourite phrase (and it’s ironic bc they appeared after the lockdowns after everyone had just spent two years inside)

You’re right. It’s because they’re all synonyms, and they all mean the same thing.

They mean “I don’t like you because you aren’t like me, and I only want people who are acceptably like me to exist.”

It felt so horrid to be chased out of places, one was an amino where they had a space for controversial topics and I was discussing it there and the mods kicked me out of the chat and gave me a warning. So I left because I felt unwanted.I had a huge NSSI meltdown over it as it was a very dear space, I was there for years, I tried so hard to be kind and help people and met lots of good friends. I was even a mod at one point and they liked me, I hate how quickly they turned on me. I still miss it now and trying to make my own space but it’s not going well.I feel lonely online now, and mobility is getting harder so that’s making social more difficult, and at work sometimes I feel like it’s hard to talk to people. Anti just makes no sense to me, it seems hypocritical and nasty and counter productive. Art shouldn’t be a crime.

Anon, I am so sorry that that happened to you.

Online socialization is so, so important for so many of use that are homebound. It’s another dimension of antis ableism that that is something they don’t even take into account.

I hope you can find a space online where you feel wanted and where you belong.

Do you have any advice for people using ableist language who won’t quit?Specifically people who are ND and don’t understand the fact that just because they don’t mean harm by it, doesn’t erase the fact it’s harmful and hurtful language to use, especially when it’s triggering for other people around them?
– (A very upset) 🍉💌

I think my advice would be to remind them that even if they don’t feel the language is harmful, they are not excused from kindness and respect to others even due to their neurodivergence.

You can remind them that they can go on using whatever language that they want, and people who feel hurt or disrespected by those words are equally free stop interacting with them because they keep saying hurtful things.
