I’ve been meaning to write this fic between a s/i OC of mine and a yandere version of a character from MHA. But I’m scared to post it. I keep pysching myself out of doing it. Like is it too self-indulgent? Is there some things I need to work out here since it’s gonna involve a lot(and I mean A LOT)of dark and triggering topics that I have experienced IRL? Am I being racially insensitive with my s/i being a mixed race person in a country that doesn’t like racial diversity despite being in a similar position? Idk, I’m self-conscious about it because I don’t wanna be insensitive about that last part nor do I want antis to come and harass me for also trying to work out my problems.

There is no such thing as fiction that is too self indulgent, anon. I hope you do post and share it.

It is always okay to use your dark experiences to share your perspective in fiction.

The world is richer for your fiction and your perspective being shared.

Not all art is about ‘goof representation’.

Meaningful art can be transgressive and challenging, both to the observer, and to the creator.

I really hope you share your work with the world, anon.

Antis think everyone “”‘normal””” is on their side when in reality vast majority of accounts here that don’t have DNI list or proshipper in bio are for ship and let ship. Myself and at least dozen moots of mine included. Have they ever seen those restore fandoms back to what they were posts with over 20k notes? Who do they think is liking and rebloging them? They can’t fathom most of us are grown ups with busy lives and couldn’t give a single fuck if someone out there is shipping fictional twins or not. dl;dr, simple as that

We are realizing more and more than antis have no concept of people who think and believe in a way other than the way they think and believe.

Antis seem to believe that there is only one category of people who think and believe in a way that they don’t, and that category is “weirdos and criminals, and weirdo and criminal are synonyms.”

“Oh hell yeah! A fic author who sets a boundary without being a dick about it!” *Is a teenager who writes smut* “…Welp, at least they aren’t a dick unlike most fic authors on here.”*blocked*

Can’t win ‘em all!

I wish teenagers who wrote smut knew not to go around telling everyone how old they are.

“On the internet nobody knows you’re a dog” as we used to say.

best thing a writer can do is make it clear that it’s not ok many ppl lack intelligence to part right from wrong so try and help them every author: tag your shit

Somebody reblogged our post from the other day and tagged it with this.

And yes, tag your shit, that part is very correct and very important.

But it is not your job as a fiction writer to educate anybody.

Unless you are specifically writing material to be educational you do not have any kind of responsibility to educate your audience on what is and isn’t moral behavior.

It is not your job to educate your audience on morality.

You do not have an obligation to tell your audience that bad things are bad.

Fiction is not moral education.

Proshippers, in 2023 let’s continue to pursue our dedication to:

Kindness: treating others with the gentleness we’d like to be treated, rather than stooping to the level of our opponents.

Justice: defending the rights of our fiction creators to not be treated cruelly or as criminals, and taking a stand against censorship.

Bravery: refusing to be terrorized by harassers into hiding our content; and creating an environment to embolden others to share their creativity.

Freedom: maintaining the ideal that others can share their taboo and dark creative works, even if those are not themes we’re personally interested in.

Happy new year, proshippers!

Personally I don’t view myself as a full anti, while I do have some immoral ships some things make me uncomfortable and I try to avoid it where I can. However, I personally feel shipping with real people or like, the personas they put out is not entirely harmless as it is a real person, or at least how they present themselves. Mainly I’m referring to YouTubers here, seeing Markiplier x Reader content (which I do stumble across, rarely) feels like that much should be considered past the line of “acceptable”.Yeah it’s their persona they put on for the camera but that still feels a little too close to the knuckle. What’s your opinion on it, out of curiosity?

Hey pal, thanks for writing in.

Just want to make sure you know that you can be proship and still have things in fiction that make you uncomfortable and you wanna avoid. There are specific pairings and some general problematic tropes that make us really uncomfortable and we just avoid them.

What makes someone proship isn’t being comfortable with everything, it’s acknowledging that we can’t control what content others make, and that’s okay. It’s also totally okay to curate your own space and avoid whatever it makes you happy to avoid.

As far as rpf and shipping real people goes, I’ll be honest, I don’t understand what compels people to write about that stuff, but I also realize it’s not my business to police what they do.

Here’s my full opinion on rpf.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying:

  • Queer ships
  • Age gap ships
  • Self insert ships
  • Childhood friends to lovers
  • Enemies to lovers
  • Straight ships
  • Ships with villains
  • Shipcest
  • Toxic or abusive ships
  • Omegaverse
  • Underage ships
  • Adult x minor ships
  • Any ships!

Shipping is imaginary; there is no way do it wrong.

Ship and let ship!

Ship and let ship!

πŸ‘‰ Hate and harassment make fandom a toxic place for everyone.

πŸ‘‰ Hate and harassment decreases overall participation in fandom; it doesn’t just chase away people you don’t like.

πŸ‘‰ Hate and harassment discourages everyone from sharing their fan work for fear it might make someone upset.

πŸ‘‰ Hate and harassment decreases engagement and commenting on fan work for fear it might make someone upset.

If you see fan work you don’t like; block and move on!

Ship and let ship!

πŸ“’ Moral and immoral are not immutable qualities everyone agrees on.

πŸ“’ You are not obligated to listen to people who tell you that the fiction you enjoy carries moral weight.

πŸ“’ Trying to dictate what type of fiction is acceptable is authoritarian behavior.

“Do you realize that whatever we fantasize about matters to God? He is intimately aware and involved in our spiritual development. As Christians, it is critical that we censor our imaginations, because wrong thoughts can easily become wrong attitudes that give birth to sinful actions. Emotions can manifest with equal force whether incited by fantasy or reality. This fact alone fuels the pornography industry.”

– an excerpt from “Buying and Selling the Souls of our Children: A Closer Look at Pokemon” by John Paul Jackson

Please, please show this quotation the next time you see an anti arguing about how we shouldn’t compare them to conservative Christians.
