Take a look at this person who is saying the quiet part out loud.

It’s not that they think proshippers cause harm, it’s that they’re weird.

Not only does this person think that being weird is bad, they think you shouldn’t be allowed to be weird near other people.

on the weirdos website?!

I’m hollering they really said “I can’t (and refuse to) fathom any reason why someone might think or do something I wouldn’t” oh boy

I’m not repeating myself, so let me just add these right here

This is just such a blatant self report that I can’t help but cackle madly over it. They’re just bullies, plain and simple, and they use the “safety of the children” argument as a shield to make their bullying seem acceptable.

man i honestly think this whole proship/anti debate is so stupid. everyone here sucks and i refuse to take a sideboutta form the secret, third option of “harassment/suicide baiting/doxxing/etc. is irredeemable in any context and it is so much easier to just utilize the block button than harm your own mental health over someone on the internet who could not give less of a shit what you think. but at the same time, depicting certain topics in fiction just for the sake of depicting them without saying anything about the subject matter or the very real suffering victims experience, using the abuse for nothing more than shipping fodder, is vile, and i think if you need that explained to you, you don’t have the critical thinking skills to be interacting with the internet”i’m gonna call it “everyone go outside please”

Well, anon, you had me in the first half, that’s for sure. I agree with you about blocking and ignoring people you don’t like.

But here’s where you get it wrong.

but at the same time, depicting certain topics in fiction just for the sake of depicting them without saying anything about the subject matter or the very real suffering victims experience, using the abuse for nothing more than shipping fodder, is vile, and i think if you need that explained to you, you don’t have the critical thinking skills to be interacting with the internet”

Let’s say for the sake of argument that you’re right (I disagree, but for the sake of argument), “depicting something without saying something about it, and using it just for shipping fodder is vile.”

Let’s imagine for a second that’s true.

How do you know, for sure, what works are attempting to say something artistically about abuse and suffering and which are “just shipping fodder”?

You think you “know it when you see it?” (This is the same rule that is from obscenity laws that allow any pornography to be criminalized if it doesn’t make an artistic statement.)

How can you say, for sure, that something that you think is vile and glorifies abuse, isn’t written by a victim of that abuse trying to portray the suffering that they went through? Do you demand them to disclose their trauma to you?

How do you say for sure what is art about suffering or harm or mental illness, and what is something “just made to get off to.”

More to the point, who do YOU trust to decide between the two?

Who do you trust to go through every work about dark topics and decide which ones are art and which ones are just smut?

Is there anyone you actually trust to put in authority to do that?

How would you arrange that? How would you make sure that this theoretical governing body stayed pure through the years and wasn’t corrupted into an authoritarian body censoring all uncomfortable depictions of suffering, abuse and mental illness?

You can not.

You just can’t.

No one can.

All art is art, anon. All art has something to say. You can’t assign a judge to decide what art is saying something and what isn’t.

For example, I could argue that Cinderella uses abuse as shipping fodder, especially the schmoopy uwu versions that ~pure, sweet~ Tumblrinas love most. With the exception of one scene where she cries about a particularly big setback, there is absolutely no mention of the lasting harm that abuse does to a person. The abuse is just there to catalyse the love story and then create an obstacle that temporarily keeps the two lovers apart. Should we now ban every version of Cinderella and every derivative of that story? Or is it fine because the story doesn’t show the prince putting his willy in her hoo ha? If someone wrote a fanfiction that was exactly the same but had a sex scene, would that now be Bad Evil Smut? Would the kind of sex make a difference? Would it make a difference if it was Ella and a princess? Or the prince and an abused man? Or if one or both of the two were trans? What kind of works are allowed to use abuse as shipping fodder and what kind aren’t?

What do you mean “clinical”? Do you mean it’s language used by diagnosed DID systems, or is it like transmeds who use weird language to gatekeep who’s “really” trans?I keep hearing voices sometimes. I’m really excited to think I might actually have people up here in my head, but even that feels shameful because I’ve always heard “You shouldn’t want this, it’s hellish. You’re fucked up for wanting to have a system. You’re erasing the trauma it’s given me.”I…don’t feel singular. I never have. I’ve never felt like I’m just me. I’ve always felt people behind me, hand on my shoulder, someone taking my hand. Someone holding me when I desperately, desperately needed someone I could trust to not abandon me the way everyone else had. Facets, I called them. Masks, even though they felt so, so different to myself. But because I can’t find them, because it’s strange and vague feelings here and there, it feels…wrong to be excited? Wrong to be happy or to finally feel like things make sense. Like I’m still not allowed somewhere that might give me answers.

Both. It is language that is generally only used by plurals who understand themselves using the clinical model; and additionally system gatekeepers, sometimes calles sysmeds, police the language that they think people are allowed to use.

I want to assure you, plurality is not always suffering, just as existing as a singlet is not always suffering.

Do not let shame and fear stop you from pursuing knowledge, or the truth about yourself.

If you’re looking for support, and feeling like you don’t belong, try looking for these terms: endogenic plurality, pro endo, endo safe.

also, if you feel like it’s always there, there’s origin terms for systems that have just been there from birth, that didn’t form later on if you’re looking for a label and that seems to fit! /gen

statements like “how can you interact with someone that posts things you’re uncomfortable with” baffle me. i just…block tags. cradle ships are my squick, but i’ll send selfshippers with cradle ships asks for those f/os because the characters arent real but the joy sparked is. baffling…i can’t imagine such a hollow life wherein you can’t exist with tools that exist, for free, to hide what you dont like. antis need HELP

Some people try to force the world around them to adapt to what they want, rather than adapting themselves to the world as it exists.

I’m the same way as you, anon. There are plenty of mutuals we have that are into things we don’t like, but we can still interact.

also uhh sometimes you will have friends who like things that make you uncomfortable. that’s how normal friendships often happen. it’s ridiculous to expect a friendship to mean “someone who always coddles me when i encounter anything uncomfortable.” and is rarely a sign of a healthy two sided friendship anyways. sometimes in order to keep friends you have to suck it up when things like this happen.

and actually learn to make an effort to meet the friend halfway. instead of always expecting them to sacrifice for you. this is another major issue i have with antis always assuming malicious abuse when someone makes them uncomfortable. the world isn’t nearly that simplistic. just putting my own two cents out there.

The ability to be flexible and meet people halfway is very important.

“But what if a child sees this content?”

This content is appropriate for, and within the rules of the platform that it was posted to.

It is not my job to moderate the content of a site to a higher degree than the actual site moderators.

Children who are uncomfortable with the content posted to a site where it is allowed to be should remove themselves to a site that is more heavily moderated.

Antis are trying to moderate the content of spaces that are not moderated to the degree they prefer.

Antis are mini-modding.

yup. i’ve seen so many antis try to speak for what site moderating rules mean. instead of just asking the actual site mods first. they do have bossy complexes about this kind of issue. it’s how you get some antis claiming to know what kind of site moderation AO3 needs but then not knowing the site is made by proshippers.

Proshippers, in 2023 let’s continue to pursue our dedication to:

Kindness: treating others with the gentleness we’d like to be treated, rather than stooping to the level of our opponents.

Justice: defending the rights of our fiction creators to not be treated cruelly or as criminals, and taking a stand against censorship.

Bravery: refusing to be terrorized by harassers into hiding our content; and creating an environment to embolden others to share their creativity.

Freedom: maintaining the ideal that others can share their taboo and dark creative works, even if those are not themes we’re personally interested in.

Happy new year, proshippers!

YES!!! & keep creating stuff for you page & fanfictions. Don’t let anybody stop you!! 💯💯💯💯

All I hear is “science isn’t real if I think it’s icky!!!!”

I think it’s okay to ship underage and shipcest.

I think it’s okay to kill NPCs.

I think it’s okay to write fiction.

Huh. That wasn’t so hard. See, I have this thing called a brain, and I used that brain to conclude that real people matter more than fake constructs. Just ask Glarthir, the guy I killed and closed in a door so I could watch him glitch out of the world.

I mean hey, if you’re allergic to sources on scientific studies, that’s not my problem, sheep.

Maybe instead of wishing harm on random people who write icky gross fiction, you should be writing that essay on why Jack Thompson is wrong but you aren’t. I’ll wait. I won’t be holding my breath, though.
