“Proship” means you don’t believe people should be harassed, threatened or insulted for the fiction and art they create, even if you personally find what they’re making to be gross, upsetting or in some way immoral.
“Proship” means you believe that all fiction and art has a right to exist, and should be available to access for those who want to see it, and available to be blocked and avoided by those who don’t want to see it.
That’s everything proship means.

Is there an authority that you trust to censor out what you consider harmful depictions of dark or sexual topics, who you also trust not to censor all art about abuse and suffering, and trust not to censor all depictions of queer relationships?
Your blog has inspired me to create stuff for fandoms I’m in (even if I’m the only one who will see it) I always felt like I would be kicked outta spaces for expressing myself because I was in groups with fancops when I was a teenager.It was only recently I heard the terms proship and fancops so now I’m glad to finally feel like I can enjoy fandom how I want and know that the whole Fandom isn’t against me.

Right? it always seems like “be critical of your interests” is code for “you’re not allowed to have fun”.
i fucking hate proship/anti discourse because i feel like the fact that those words even exist is fucked up. it takes an issue (that people are drawing porn of underage characters and posting that shit on the internet) and turns it into fandom discourse that sounds silly and absurd to anyone not involved deeply in fandom. if you go on twitter and say shit like “drawing CP is bad” you’ll get people telling you actually, it’s not real, so it’s ok. it’s wild. it’s not ok legally or morally to draw and post porn of underage characters on the internet and it’s not ok to defend it. labelling your passion for CP as being a “proshipper” because “fiction doesn’t affect reality” is absurd. how about you use your critical thinking skills and ponder the complex and fascinating relationship between fiction and real life. or how about you use your brain at all and realise that you should not be shipping a teen and an adult in their 30s, even if theyre fictional. proshippers get a life challenge

- If you are in the USA, it is absolutely legal to draw or write about fictional underage characters having sex. The only time it’s illegal is if it’s an image that is indistinguishable from a photograph.
- Whether you think its moral to create fiction that depicts immoral behavior is a subjective question. Most normal people think that’s fine.
- Calling it “CP” is extremely dismissive to actual survivors of CSA. Comparing drawings to actually child sexual exploitation material is extremely dismissive to the suffering of actual survivors of CSA.
