dead-pidove-do-not-eat:

Wow I really spit, when I emotionally spiral.

This is a journal entry from last night, edited for clarity and to not point fingers at specific people, but at ideology. I was really angry. And I try not to show that anger on this account but I think, at least this time, it’s important and drives the point home. General content warnings for talking about trauma, harassment and victim blaming.

I know it’s not relevant now, now if you’re being yelled at by somebody for writing/ making art of something “problematic” they’re more likely to be anti-recovery, and tell you to quit therapy or whatever you use to help yourself altogether and instead find a cult “group” that can help you find a coping mechanism that doesn’t make them uncomfortable! Either that or accuse you of not being traumatized at all. Because no “actual” trauma victim would ever do anything to makes them personally uncomfortable!

But back in my day, as I saw this whole thing start, if you said that you used fiction as a coping mechanism, they would demand you to out yourself as a survivor to them like fucking cops in order to gatekeep if you could write fiction or not. I saw people pour their fucking hearts out in posts saying how specifically they were traumatized and why the fiction they consumed helped with that trauma. Even going to far as to psychoanalyze themselves to try and be given the freedom and pass to ship without getting harassed.

In the end though? It doesn’t fucking matter. I don’t need to be a victim for other people to mind their own fucking business and curate their own goddamn experiences. Outing yourself as a survivor makes yourself VULNERABLE. It gives other people the ability to not only attack and harass you with said trauma, but also allows them to doubt your story and victim blame. It is nobodies fucking job to scrutinize and check what another person can and can’t do in fucking fiction. And in the end, it didn’t actually matter if you were a victim or a “dirty freak” in their eyes because you still got harassed. And they could never even handle the fucking thought that you could have fallen under both categories in their false fucking dichotomies. And frankly? Nobody is fucking owed that type of information at all, especially to use that sensitive information to categorize and gate-keep people from being able to do whatever the fuck they’d like in fiction freely.

I’m angry, I’m so upset at how much information people gave up in order to try and stop harassment campaigns against them. When the answer should have always been “it’s not ANY of your damn business, so fuck right off to the hole you crawled out of.” It should have never fucking come to this point where people had to give up whether they were a victim or not, when there are no sources or anything to suggest that fiction impacts reality to the degree that antis think it does. The burden of proof lies with anti’s and anti’s only.

If you see this is posted, It’s because I got fed up with the fact that these fucking people were able, ALLOWED to ask this shit without being fucking reprimanded and told to fuck off like they should have been. And that their movement has moved the goalposts from “I need to see your survivor card to determine if you are allowed this freedom.” To “this is unhealthy in my unprofessional opinion and I am going to harass you for it even though its not any of my fucking business in the first place, and it’s only because I personally find your existence and your coping mechanisms disgusting.”

All I hear is “science isn’t real if I think it’s icky!!!!”

I think it’s okay to ship underage and shipcest.

I think it’s okay to kill NPCs.

I think it’s okay to write fiction.

Huh. That wasn’t so hard. See, I have this thing called a brain, and I used that brain to conclude that real people matter more than fake constructs. Just ask Glarthir, the guy I killed and closed in a door so I could watch him glitch out of the world.

I mean hey, if you’re allergic to sources on scientific studies, that’s not my problem, sheep.

Maybe instead of wishing harm on random people who write icky gross fiction, you should be writing that essay on why Jack Thompson is wrong but you aren’t. I’ll wait. I won’t be holding my breath, though.

lol “do you have ANY critical thinking skills.” *Proceeds to make disgust based arguments*

I need this person to define critical thinking, list the skills needed in order to engage in critical thinking and how they and this argument effectively engages with those skills. Because they really could take their own advice lol.

Hi again.🙂I knew someone who claims to be anti censorship but thinks that a certain kind of humor (making fun of stereotype characters) shouldn´t exist and that if you´re okay with this kind of humor (or god forbid, laugh about it) you´re a bad person.🙄 What do you think about this? I think it´s pretty hypocritical.

I very much understand a person not wanting to support speech that they feel is hate-speech (racist, transphobic, homophobic jokes), and it is true that stand up comedy/telling jokes is a little different than creating fiction.

However, if you believe in free speech, as we do, you can not believe that it’s okay to censor these types of jokes either.

Because then we get into the authoritarian question of “who is doing the censorship?”.

If we censor people from making jokes on the basis that they are “homophobic”, it is entirely likely that these rules will actually be used to stop queer people from telling jokes about themselves, as much or more than it will censor actual homophobia.

I do not trust anyone with the power to enforce censorship with the power of censorship.

That said, like every other form of content, I think that comedy should ideally come with content warnings (or a deliberate lack of content warnings a la AO3’s “chose not to warn”).

If a performer is making homophobic, transphobic or racist jokes, I want a warning so I can make the decision to listen or avoid it as is my personal preference.

I think it should also be obvious that not everyone is considers the same material offensive or ‘ist’. There are plenty of queer comedians who make jokes that some might consider homophobic, but some might see as relatable or funny.

There are also plenty of jokes that simply age out of their original context and seem much more tasteless now than when they were originally created.

There are lots of reasons to laugh at a joke, shock, surprising, relating to it. You don’t know that someone laughing at a tasteless or ‘ist’ joke is laughing because they’re ‘ist’.

However, it’s also important to remember that there are some things people call “censorship” that really aren’t.

  • A specific person or company refusing to broadcast or promote your content is not censorship
  • A person being offended by your content or publicly disagreeing with your content is not censorship (it can be harassment, if the person is being uncivil.)
  • A person choosing to avoid your content is not censorship
  • A person choosing to avoid people who enjoy your content is not censorship

Telling jokes in bad taste is not, and should not be criminal, and should not be censored. But nobody has to laugh at them either.

I don’t think laughing at tasteless jokes makes you a bad person, but I don’t think wanting to avoid jokes that you find hurtful makes you a bad person either.

kawaii-pigeon:

You dont have to play nice with people who want you dead.

You dont have to be soft uwu watching your speech to those who have no issue being vulgar to you.

You do not have to use kiddie gloves for OTHERS mental wellness when they won’t even give half a shit about yours.

As long as you do you, and dont harass others then there is no wrong in returning energy for energy.

If somebody calls you a cunt dont feel bad calling them one right back!

If somebody gets victimized and they lash out, why do so many people go ‘well that seems a little excessive’ even if all that person does is yell swears and slurs right back?

How is it that we can use the same mindset of “well anti’s dont like messy victims” and ALSO apply it to our comrades when THEY become messy in response!?

You do NOT have to be nice to assholes unless you’re paid to do it. And nobody is making Bank on tumblr.

If i write something violent, and someone unrelated to me reads my fiction, and then goes and violently assaults someone, that’s not my fault or responsibility.

If I write something sexual, and someone unrelated to me reads my fiction and then goes and sexually assaults someone that’s not my fault or responsibility.

If I write sexual fiction about underage characters and someone unrelated to me reads my fiction and then goes and sexually assaults a child, that’s not my fault or responsibility.

Do not blame fiction for people committing crimes.

Dark, problematic, and taboo fiction doesn’t glorify or promote crime.

Problematic writers are not responsible for the actions of people who commit crimes.

antishipping:

gonna rant a bit here as a “mlm” myself, but it makes me sick how the anti-fujoshi movement have lead others to believe that consuming BL, R-18 or not, is “immoral”.

i’ve seen so many comments from boys, asking if it’s “okay” for them to read the sexual aspects of BL.

In fact, a little over a month ago, i saw a comment from someone who claimed to be a gay man that said something among the lines of:

“okay, so i’m a guy in a m/m relationship and i get that yaoi is bad and all, but is BL just as problematic as well? 🙁 i don’t really want to be supporting it if it is. i am still allowed to read BL?”

like!!!! dude!!!!! OF COURSE YOU ARE.

YOU DO NOT NEED OTHER PEOPLE’S APPROVAL IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO READ SOMETHING.

man, antis have totally abused people like this. making people ask for their approval before they can do things. it genuinely saddens me that people feel like they need permission from fanpol before they’re “allowed” to read BL in the privacy of their own home.

read whatever the fuck you want. you are not hurting anybody. you are not “fetishizing” anybody by reading other people’s creations.

BL is not problematic. yes, even BL that showcases sex. gay sex is not dirty thing. it’s not disgusting, it’s not shameful, and it’s a very vital part of the lgbt community as well as queer history. it should not be censored or policed, and it should never be seen as problematic. i’m tired of people treating it like it is.

BL and LGBT content in general is so important, and everyone should be allowed to enjoy it.

Sorry for the essay here, but I feel like we need to talk about these types of antis more with the hypocritical type who like problematic media but will lose it if they see it in fandom. And tw for mentions of SA and murder.I can not stand antis who make everything to be problematic and go on witch-hunts over what they made up. For example, and not sure if you know about this from the MHA fandom, a couple years ago antis we’re throwing a fit and accusing the mangaka, Horikoshi, of making a chapter with rape in it. Called him every name under the sun, wished death upon him, and described the panels in graphic sexual detail and accused him as finding it “hot” and “sexy.” But here’s the thing, it wasn’t a rape scene nor was it sexualized, romanticized, or every buzzword antis like to use.I’m speaking as someone with a non-con kink and let me tell you, I know a non-con moment when I see one. No, the scene was graphic and it was disturbing, but no SA was happening. No it was disturbing because it had the character Twice being forced to watch his friend Toga almost get brutally murdered by clones of himself. These antis are so quick to call someone a pervert and accuse them of doing something sinister and disgusting, while that’s not even happening at all. And it’s down right disturbing because they do all this shit without warning. If you’re gonna wrongly talk about something in the wrong graphic details, then tag it, god damn. Or get critical thinking skills, because they are lacking if the confuse brutal murder with SA and act like you’re the morally superior one while you tell the accused to die.

I feel you, anon. Thanks for sharing this.

Another thing I was wondering: is making a character try and fail over and over again to stop being alcoholic as a coping mechanism for trauma realistic (as I think) or is it making them a woobie in a whump fic?And what’s the problem people have with whump? I loved reading angst hurt/comfort when I was younger and delving into the world of fandom(this is the “is “rape as comedy” problematic?” anon)

Some people think their squicks should turn into rules for the rest of us.

Write whatever you want. Woobies are popular, and that’s half of why people whine about them.

mori-proship:

> the content of this post is disgusting!

ok. scroll past. block the poster. filter the tags. move on.

> but there weren’t any tags i could filter!

block the poster. or inform them, respectfully, that their posts lack tags.

> i think it’s immoral to do what’s described/pictured in this post!

is there something that breaks tumblr’s rules? is there something harmful done to a real human being? report it accordingly;

is it something that you are personally against? block the user. or start a CONVERSATION (meaning be respectful and listen to their side) to see if you can change their opinions. if not, say your goodbyes, block them.

the thing is, you won’t be able to change 90% of people’s minds and opinions. and even if you’re able to change a random person’s mind on the internet, what did you gain? and if you say “kys” and leave, what do you think you’re doing? if it’s fun for you, i suggest you talk to a therapist about it.
