Because I just had to see it on the dash again today: I think it´s actually pretty funny when antis use their “You´re an adult” argument.

Like yes person who´s probably half my age, that´s why I´ve got better things to do than caring about other people´s preferences in fiction and that´s also why I´m too old to act like pixels on a screen are real human beings, or to believe in your silly “Fiction affects reality” theory. There are real problems in the world that need our attention, which is something you will (hopefully) realize too in a few years.

Really wish antis would understand that no matter what the source material contains, fandom is not for kids. If you wanna bitch and moan about adults in adult spaces for kid’s media, then take these kids out of the fandoms for adult media. But yall are defending their right to be in the Danganronpa fandom, but god forbid an adult wants to enjoy The Owl House fandom.

The problem is the majority of antis consider all fandom, regardless of source material, to be ONLY for kids.

If you’re an adult they think you’re a weirdo who should get out of fandom. Any fandom. “Go do your taxes.”

You know what’s sad? Having to tell my adult patients that they don’t have to be boring fucks who hate everything to be considered adults.

Seriously, people have a very weird idea of what it means to be an adult. I have patients who come to me and tell me they are unhappy with their lives and they don’t understand why, because they have a job, they have a good salary, they can pay their bills, they have a significant other, they’re doing everything right and still they’re unhappy.

And then we start talking and talking and, finally, we reach the real problem: they stopped being themselves.

I have so many patients who stopped doing things they liked – harmless things, fun things – because they felt it was innapropriate for an adult to do them.

Videogames? I’m too old for that.

Comic books? I’m too old for that.

Disney movies? That’s for kids.

Super hero movies/series? I’m an adult, I should act like one.

Going to parks/carnivals? I don’t have kids to do that with.

It’s scary how these people simply gave up on these fun hobbies just because they reached a certain age. And it’s even more scary that they don’t see the problem with this.

Adult life is more than just work, paying bills and marriage. It’s about going out with your friends, it’s about buying silly things that have no purpose but to bring you a little joy, it’s about having fun and living your life to the fullest.

You don’t have to be a boring fuck to be an “acceptable adult”. Fuck society and fuck whoever says you can’t like something because you’re “too old”.

You’re never too old to do the things you like, play the games you want to play and watch the movies/series you want to watch.

Dress up and go to Comic Con. Go to the midnight premiere of your favorite super hero movie. Read the “silly teen books” you want to read. Play that “childish” game you’ve been wanting to play.

Being an adult doesn’t mean you need to forget who you are. Being older doesn’t mean you need to let go of the things you love and enjoy.

Be unapologetically yourself and go live your best life!

I have a full time job, pay bills, and also have plushies on my bed and comic books and cosplays

They can coexist. You should enjoy your life when you can

Dang people, adulthood (= married, own business however two-bit) was when I thought “hey I have fuck-you rights” (and income that will cover more than necessities) and got a subscription account at the local comic shop and started writing fanfic again for the first time since 8th grade. No one around to say “we won’t give you allowance if you spend it on that” or “ha ha who takes notes on a TV show?”

Official Senior Citizen now. Ageists can bite me. Have all the fun you were born to have.

People seem to not know how old writers are when they make their stories.

Stephanie Meyer wrote Twilight in 2003, at age 29

Cassandra Clare started writing Mortal Instruments in 2004, at age 31

Rick Riordan published Percy Jackson & the Olympians, the book about 12yrolds, at age 41

George R. R. Martin published A Game of Thrones, at age 48

You can’t even use the “but fanfiction isn’t real writing” argument because of how many fanfiction turn movies there is. They are clearly enough of a story to be made into published books.

Anna Renee Todd’s After series was a Harry Styles fanfiction, which was published in 2014, when she was 25

E.L. James Fifty Shades of Grey series was a Twilight fanfiction, which was published in 2011, when she was 48

Mortal Instruments was a Harry Potter fanfiction.

Why must they act like After someone turns 20 their life ends, like people can’t have hobbies???

You’re not embarrassed being an old woman and being in tumblr? I would rather die that my grannies have an actual account on tumblr for celebrities rho

Why would I be embarrassed for having interests I enjoy? My guess is that you’re really, really young. And that maybe you don’t actually have solid relationships with adults who have lives outside of parenting or work. But I hope for you that when you’re my age you have hobbies that bring you happiness. And that by that point you realize that trying to shame someone for being an adult only makes you look too immature to be in adult spaces, which Tumblr is.

When I was 20, I loved music, making art, writing and reading good stories, fashion, talking about popular culture, making friends, going to concerts… You’d be surprised how little changes when you’re my age. I just have way more money and time to enjoy those things now. I’m only 55. I’m not dead. I’m also not a “granny”, but even if I was, I’d probably still like all of those things.

Ageism isn’t cute, love. And I sure don’t ever see people telling men they shouldn’t go to football games or have their little “fantasy football leagues” or wear their favorite player’s merch. For every comment you guys like to say is misogynistic (but isn’t), this is one that really reeks of it.

What she said. ^^^

I am well over 60, I have been in fandom since I was 12, one way or another, and I ain’t leaving. And misogyny is never attractive.

I’ll be 60 soon and ha ha ha I’m in fandom forever.

(Enjoy your time with other children anon. And I promise you, they’re not creating all the content you love.)

Just turned 70 this last May.

I am a fan. I’ve been a fan of one or another book series, TV show or comic since I was eight. I’ve been in organized, convention-going and print-based fandoms since I was old enough to vote. My generation invented online fandoms, and I’ve been in them from almost the very beginning of online. I’ve been on CompuServe and AOL and LiveJournal and the other earliest platforms where fandom congregated: Tumblr’s merely one of the newer ones.

If some adorable, entitled, wet-behind-the-ears wee nonny thinks they’re going to roll up and have a little self-righteous fun shaming some senior Tumblrina into buggering off of here because she’s An Old—and should therefore (by their way of thinking) be embarrassed for enjoying the manifestation of her continuing passion for the best in media along with others, in long-standing community— Well, they’ve got another think coming.

…And oh yeah: You don’t like it? Then just get off our lawn, sweetiecakes. We were here long before you were, and (if you’re so easily embarrassed) we’ll still be here long after you’re gone. 🙂

(waves) (And hey, hi there, Atlin!)

Yup.

I wonder if the antis who believe that anyone over 25 should be off raising children and not in fandom are scared

Do they fear a future where they will have to abandon all their interests and ‘grow up’? Are they scared of the lack of stability? Of not being allowed to be the same person they are now?

Or maybe they think that they will magically become a mature adult with mature adult hobbies on their 25th birthday? Maybe they just don’t think about the future, they just live in the here and now of being a teenager

I know I would be scared if i was in their place

I want to be in in my 80s and still writing fic. Fandom has been my constant companion since I was a child, The characters and platforms might change but fandom will always be there for me

I hope these kids realize that they can have that too

“Please evaluate your ageism, child” … please tell me you see the irony

Assuming that someone who thinks 30 is old must be a child isn’t ageism, dear.

Describing a child as a child isn’t ageism.

Saying that someone can not do something because of their age or must do something because of their age is ageism.

Try harder, anon.

At the ripe old age of thirty you should know better than being a proshitter. I signed up fro wholesome f/o content, not your creepy incest garbage clogging up my recommendations. Change and grow as a person.

LMAO. The immaturity and entitlement in this ask is overwhelming.

Firstly, the fact that you signed up to tumblr for “wholesome content” is a) hilarious, and b) your problem, not mine.

Learn to curate your content; block blogs and tags you don’t want to see.

Secondly. “ripe old age of thirty”?? Please evaluate your ageism, child. I was here in fandom before you, and I’ll be here after you.

The one who needs to “change and grow as a person” is yourself.

It is absolutely a boundary violation to tell someone to change THEIR content to suit YOU.

antishipping:

Adults who still write fanfiction really need to just grow up and get a life. Because it’s totally kids that are dedicating their time to typing up 600k+ words, constantly proof-reading every chapter they produce, making sure their work is beta read, having perfect grammar, a large range of vocabulary and top-tier writing skills, and doing research about the characters that they’re writing for so they can make sure they’re not OOC. Yep, it’s definitely children that are the ones investing their time in all that. Totally.

Also, they way you word this makes it sound like fanfiction is inherently about “fetishizing LGBT people”, which, needless to say, is absolutely not true, and I think says more about you as a person.

As for the “CP” part… I’m not even going to waste my time on this one. You’ve been asked time and time again to stop using the acronym “CP” to describe fanfiction, and recordings or photos of child sexual abuse in general. Children aren’t a fucking porn category. Use the term CSAM/CSAM or don’t fucking discuss the issue regarding the sexualization of children at all.
