Thank you so much for your post. I’ve been harassed to the point where I had to get hospitalized because my F/O is a minor in canon and everyone called me a pedophile even though I aged him up. I tried so hard to hate him and get away from him but I never could… Despite all this I still love him very much and I think I always will.

I was really hesitant to join the self ship community when I learned about it last year, because at the time, my most intense f/o was a high school student (Mukuro) and i had seen so much hostility from some people about that kind of thing.
You absolutely did not deserve any of the abuse or harassment that you received and I hope you know that.
I hope that you can break through those feelings of self loathing and find joy with your F/O again. There is always space for you in the proselfship community.
Liking a character who is canonically underage doesn’t make you a pedophile, and almost no one in the world would even suggest that it does. Fancops are the outliers.
Can’t explain it. One of my f/os has this weird…son/clone thing of himself, who is super evil. I love thinking about him realizing that, realizing that this awful dictator who dropped an actual nuke on his own city, who pays people to commit crime, is…in some way, himself. It’s delightfully awful ^.^– 🍉💌

One of my most defining self shipping moments happened when I was in senior year of high school in 2004.
I had picture of Alfred Molina as Doc Ock from the then-upcoming Spider-Man 2 movie pasted on the front of my school planner. (Students at my school often displayed their celebrity crushes this way.)
A girl in my class looked at the picture and asked me why he was ‘so old and ugly’.
Anyway, Otto and my 20 year anniversary is coming up next year.
Some positivity for self shippers with ‘young’ F/Os.

💖 Even if you are an adult.
💖 No matter how old you are.
💖 You never have to stop liking a character just because of their age, or your age.
💖 It’s okay to age up your F/O if it makes you more comfortable, but you don’t have to.
💖 It’s okay to age down your S/I if it makes you more comfortable, but you don’t have to.
💖 A fictional character is a fictional character.
💖 There is no fictional character who it is wrong for you to self ship with.
