Why do non autistic people just go silent and stare at you if you say something ‘wrong’ ? Like do I shut up or repeat myself or wait? Which one dude

It’s how they were socialized.

As a fellow autistic, I don’t know what the right answer is either.

Harry (🌺😈) says the answer is “assert dominance” but I don’t trust his social skills.

Legitimately the answer is probably that it varies from person to person and situation to situation. Broadly I would approach it by apologizing briefly and moving on as if the faux pas had not happened.

Do you have any advice for people using ableist language who won’t quit?Specifically people who are ND and don’t understand the fact that just because they don’t mean harm by it, doesn’t erase the fact it’s harmful and hurtful language to use, especially when it’s triggering for other people around them?

I think my advice would be to remind them that even if they don’t feel the language is harmful, they are not excused from kindness and respect to others even due to their neurodivergence.

You can remind them that they can go on using whatever language that they want, and people who feel hurt or disrespected by those words are equally free stop interacting with them because they keep saying hurtful things.
