I like the companion ship term but it’s a little vague on its own. Without context it sounds like shipping two friends. What about something likeHybrid ShipCrossbreed or xbreed ship
Hybrid ship and crossbreed/xbreed ship both sound too much like they’re referring to potential offspring of the couple, which I personally find squicky and others might too.
Dog ship or feral ship?
I kinda like companion ship though. I feel like animals are more often called companions than friends are these days.

All the ship terms has got me wondering. When I ship I just see two characters and put them together without ever thinking of ages. I often get squicked when people insist I’m shipping adultxminor or minorxminor and force me to consider their ages; I just see it as shipping two dolls and dolls don’t have ages just an appearance and a personality or story if you want to keep it.Would a word situation for that be useful at all? At the very least to help give a warning sign “ages don’t exist here” I don’t know what I’m saying or how to say it.It’s just something that keeps bothering me with fancops and their insistence that fictional things have “real ages” you -have- to acknowledge at all times it’s made fandom harder and harder. I know I can’t be the only one who goes fiction doesn’t have ages, but in the case of being super squicked about it maybe I am alone. Everything’s gotten me questioning everything these days. Sorry to drop in your box!
Hmm, I have no idea. There certainly might be a use for a term for “I don’t consider their ages when shipping them, and it doesn’t come up in the fic” if only for people who don’t like that to filter it out.
Maybe something like void ship or just ship?
Could maybe add “Mayfly Ship” for as a term for ones that include immortal characters (or character that doesn’t age normally)? Comes from mayfly-december.Since these types don’t always look/act strictly like adults, they don’t always fit the other terms you’ve listed so far.

self ship: A ship between a canon character and the shipper themselves, or their self insert OC.
rarepair: A ship considered rare in the fandom, rather than one of the popular ships.
crack ship: A ship considered to be so unusual or out there the shipper would have to be on drugs to have come up with it.
slash ship: A ship between two male characters. Sometimes called yaoi.

Would ships with power imbalances fall under lock/pick ships? Also what if a ship is generally considered healthy and might even be anti-approved but you, the shipper, tend to ship it in a way that makes it a little fucked? (Eg, you headcanon one character as way younger, or you headcanon them as related, or in my preferred way of shipping which is to make one abusive towards the other). Sorry for asking so many questions, I just love the concept of having more expansive vocabulary for various different types of shipping! It can both help others find each other and help people avoid seeing what they’re not comfortable with. This is really great!
I propose scale ship for a ship that you want to signify has a significant power imbalance in some way, but you wouldn’t consider it dubcon/pick ship. Scale of course talking about the balance of the scales being tipped.
How about dimmer ship to signal that you ave made a ship darker than it is normally perceived to be by the fandom. As in using a dimmer on a light switch.
