alr, but what does parasocial mean? i looked up the definition but am honestly even more confused-@black-rabbit-fiction

Para as a prefix means alongside, or apart from– so, alongside or apart from a social relationship.

It means feeling like a social interaction is happening, even though the other person isn’t actually interacting with you.

There is nothing inherently negative about parasocial interactions and parasocial feelings and it is normal to have them.

some examples of parasocial interactions:

*getting a crush on a celebrity who you follow through tabloids or social media.

*feeling like video game streamers are your friends when you watch their streams

I remember someone like-telling me I have a parasocial relationship with Alastor and how unhealthy it is..and I’m like…isn’t…isn’t he fiction? Aren’t I SUPPOSED to be able to just-imagine him????? huh??????

People just use words without actually knowing what they mean. Its ridiculous.

Probably goes back to them not teaching Gen Z in the USA how to read, again

Is it just me or am I seeing the word parasocial EVERYWHERE now? Like “not to be parasocial BUT” in asks all the time, etc? What’s going on?

It’s a psyop. Or a cognitohazard. Or the zeitgeist.

Whatever you want to call it.

People get a hold of a word, see its affect on people, and then over-use it until it achieves meaninglessness.
