the queer community was formed by people who were deemed strange and abnormal in society based on them not conforming to expectations about sexuality & gender. there are no specific boundaries bc this isn’t a club. a cishet guy that likes wearing dresses who fights side by side with us for true liberation, is 100x more queer than a millionaire gay man who’s besties with companies that sell us watered down versions of our own culture for profit during pride while donating to homophobic lawmakers every other month.

i’m gonna say this again because it really pissed some people off: yes, I would rather have a cishet GNC man who stands with queer people, is involved in our spaces and our culture, stands up for us when we are attacked, and is active in furthering queer liberation, than a rich gay man who spits on the lower-class queers who gave him the ability to be out, who sells his soul to corporations who couldn’t give less of a shit about us, just for the wealth and power of capitalism. Fuck that guy. I’m not saying he isn’t gay – he is! Nothing can take that away! But we have the saying “not gay as in happy but queer as in fuck you” for a reason. The family-friendly gay millionaire isn’t my brother. The poor crossdresser who has been a part of this community since it’s inception is. Fuck your bootlicking bullshit.

reminded me of this quote:

“queer not as being about who you’re having sex with (that can be a dimension of it); but queer as being about the self that is at odds with everything around it and has to invent and create and find a place to speak and to thrive and to live.”

— bell hooks

I arrived at the Queer scene via the Punk scene, and there’s a Punk truism that seems relevant:

“Remember to inconvenience those in society who are accustomed to always getting what they want, lest you end up in a society where they are the only ones getting what they want.”

Characters like Naoto Shirogane and Chihiro Fujisaki are portrayed in their games as “not trans” due exclusively to socially ingrained transphobia in Japan.

Notice that in both these cases the source material portrays dressing and living as other than their assigned gender as a personal weakness of character.

If ONLY the character had more strength of heart and willpower, they would embrace their assigned gender and live that way.

The text reframes both character’s struggle with gender the same way– as a struggle with sexism– because, broadly speaking, that’s how being transgender has been framed in their society.

Socially, transwomen are seen as deficient men.

Socially, transmen are seen as overly butch women.

Like in America, and other parts of the world its only recently that these types of views are even starting to change.

These characters can be viewed as cis, certainly they are as far as canon is concerned, but only due to their narratives having been framed from the point of view described.

Bringing this back since they rereleased Persona 4.

You can scream at the top of your lungs that purity culture doesn’t impact fandom and that all the hate we get is just righteous Non Weird™ people bullying the Freaks™ who deserve it or whatever.

But like, the silencing of queer artists and writers, the stigmatization of problematic fiction and hatred of people who consume queer fiction not tailored to their specific gender, which for some, has moved on to things like attempting to rid things like A03 of ANY NSFW content or saying that it’s gross and weird that people write fan fiction at all, is all exactly like puritanicals?

Like, exiling and ostrasizing people not deemed “pure enough” for the group is not what Christians do? Silencing people (because threatening someone until they leave the platform, mass reporting and false striking, and repeatedly getting their followers to comment things like “kys” on all their blog posts is bullying and silencing, sorry to break that to you) is bad. And bullying tactics are common in closed off christian fundamentalist places too.

And it follows the same pattern as all other rightwing censorship. First it’s “pedophiles are everywhere” then it’s “sexual deviants (so kinky people, usually, or those with paraphilias and other "abnormal sexual interests”, whether those interests are benign or severe is of little importance) are pedophiles", then it’s “queer people are dangerous and need to be silenced”, and slowly but surely anyone even remotely different from you is a pedo (like radfems that think people who like twinks are pedophiles) and again, if you are a minority at all YOU WILL BECOME A FUCKING TARGET.

Y’all say fandom and small creators don’t matter. You degrade our art and our writing. You call us freaks and other cruel names. And when people try to actively silence us, you say “good, they’re freaks”. But one day, the thing you like will be toxic. And you’ll be the freak, deserving of bullying, social ostrasization, and harassment.

Stop the bus. Don’t just throw more people under it.

All consensual sex is gay sex as long as it pisses off the straights enough.

Literally though this is like literally the concept behind anti-sodomy laws.

It wasn’t just no guy/guy fucking it was literally ANY oral and/or anal sex including consensually between a man and a woman, married or not.

Like. Gay sex literally pissed the (mostly christian) straights off so bad they wanted to consider straight sex gay too, so they could prosecute it ALL.

Until 1962.

i gotta be real, the way the culture on this website upholds trans women as a collective egregore out of one side of its mouth and tears every living example of them to shreds the instant they get too big for their britches out the other gives me hives. “trans rights” but you ravenously consume dirt on microfamous trannies. “transmisogyny” but if some dickgirl has something you want to tear her down and take it for yourself. sicko behavior, and frankly trans women are ourselves some of the worst about it

straight women should never have learned the word fruity from tiktok

like when you gossip about a guy who you suspect to be gay (based on his interests or fashion at that) and call him fruity thats just plain old homophobia idc

its very similar to the whole le$bean fiasco…. when people are scared to say the words gay and lesbian they will come up with the weirdest possible thing to call someone while also not acknowledging that being scared to say gay/lesbian is homophobic within of itself

Do people not realize we were all called fruity as an insult as recently as the early 2000s? Is it so easily forgotten?

Pride was originally a riot. It’s not supposed to be “family-friendly”. Those who want family-friendly LGBT spaces are free to just create them. Take places that are already family-friendly and make them LGBT-friendly also. If you don’t want to do that, then that’s why Pride is still necessary.

sex workers fought in the street for you to be able to celebrate pride. sex workers rights should be an essential part of the pride celebration. I’m dead the fuck serious.

I love that so many people have mentioned Marsha P. Johnson in the tags, or made comments about black trans sex workers bc I know that includes Sylvia Rivera, but this post isn’t just about them. This post is also about the kids who worked the streets of Greenwich Village who fought until the wee hours of morning on the first night of the stonewall uprising, even though THEY WEREN’T THE ONES THAT THE POLICE WERE TARGETTING THAT NIGHT. this is about those of us who have been fighting new censorship laws tooth and nail, the same laws that are now being used against trans and queer kids across the country and around the world. This is about the sex workers who tirelessly educated the public about safe sex methods during the AIDS crisis, when the government wouldn’t even acknowledge that it is a sexually transmitted disease. Sex workers have fought for liberation from the very beginning and have CONTINUED to fight. we don’t get to forget that our lives are considered “deviant”. we are faced with that reality every single day, but many of us keep fighting for all “deviants” to be free to love, fuck, and live.

Every deviancy law that has ever been closed has been closed by a dog pile of sex workers tirelessly working to do so. Men, women, enbies, old sex workers, eighteen year olds who are homeless and angry, abled, disabled, black, white, latine, every race or ethnicity you can think of, but they all dogpile together on shitty laws and shitty authority figures and FIGHT for you. No cops at pride, keep the sex workers: cuz family friendly means you take care of the family that takes care of you, not sterilizing a protest for marketability.

“family friendly means you take care of the family that takes care of you, not sterilizing a protest for marketability.”

fucking. this. thank you. 💜🌈
