I saw a post about antis leaving fandoms and I think there’s more to it than it meets the eye: they’re just moving into newer, more popular fandom. You know how almost capitalistic new fandoms nowadays are, series are supposed to be binged, they’re a huge hit for months or max year or two then bam, everyone expects you to move on. We know most of antis are under 20-23, so they follow that “social media way of consuming media” pattern. Hence that’s why fandom that was a huge hit in 2019 will have less percentage of antis in 2023 than when it was at its peak. For example: BSD – I was in that fandom around 2016 when it was relatively unknown manga and I don’t recall stumbling into antis. Nowadays, when BSD is hella popular (esp on tiktok) there are antis everywhere. Ship that was raging with popularity back then is now considered “problematic” cuz age gap. I myself am in fandom (although half dead) that reached peak popularity during 00s and it’s hella rare to run into an anti. So yea, I defo think “catch it while it’s hot” trend is in coleration with % of antis in a fandom
That echoes our own experience of antis in fandoms.
I just wanna say thank you so much for all your selfship positivity posts. My F/O and I have an eleven year gap (me being the older, her being 15), and they’ve helped me really come to terms with not beating myself up about it. Thank you so much for all those posts, reassurance that these fictional F/Os don’t make me horrible to real people has helped immensely. – Celery Anon
We are so glad <3 we, and other people in the community, have been trying so hard to make the self ship community more welcoming and pleasant for self shippers of all kinds.
We are so glad to have you with us.
So this is interesting. I have been fighting off wave after wave of bots the last two days.
I have noticed that all of these bots are following the same or similar list of blogs when I check them.
They include @ao3-crack and @dear-ao3 every time, as well as some other consistent blogs that I’m not comfortable pinging out of the blue.
I guess there must be some kind of list these bots are using to follow.
I wonder what the criteria is.
Antiship bot spamming real???
Unfortunately as I look at this list of blogs the idea becomes possible.
The overwhelming majority are fan creators in their upper 20s and 30s, smut and whump writers. There are also some 80s nostalgia blogs.
EDIT: the other, more likely possibility is simply that all these blogs have posted something in a specific shared tag that the bot scrapes from. Perhaps #ao3 or something.
Oh 🙁
Good luck, friends. I haven’t noticed too many bots, so at least it isn’t too widespread?
Thanks. From the look of it I think they are scraping a tag like “#archive of our own” or “#whump” or something like that.

I don’t like the hypothesis I’m coming up with based on the data. :/
